Job losses loom at the Acorn Business Centre!

It was only a few weeks ago that Maidstone Borough Council made the disastrous decision to refuse permission for the J8 development to go ahead stopping two local business expanding in the Borough and putting 300 jobs at risk.  The Acorn Business Centre in Fant, just off Milton Street, is at threat of being turned into 22 homes. If this was to happen the businesses who operate from the site would need to find new premises and could lead to many job losses. It would also lead to resultant problems such as parking, congestion, lack of amenities space and a deterioration of the local environment. This type of site must be maintained as employment land if Maidstone is to provide high quality jobs for its residents.

Save Acorn Business centre!

Maidstone Labour have been leading the campaign to see this site retained as employment land allowing it to offer jobs for local people. The businesses on this site have offered their services to the people of Fant and Maidstone for many years so it would be a great shame to unnecessarily lose them. Maidstone has for too long relied on low quality retail and bar work for residents. Maidstone Council must encourage businesses to set-up across the Borough providing high quality jobs for residents and its vital we are not starting this work from a declining figure.
